Southland District Council’s Annual Plan 2016/17 outlines what Council intends to do in the coming year.
It includes information about proposed activities and projects, how these could be paid for, and changes compared to the 10 Year Plan.
In 2016/17 the overall rates will increase 3.30 percent. The reasons for this include fluctuations in spending and a proposed increase to the regional heritage rate. Fees and charges are also changing. To view maps which show rating types for your property visit emap.southlanddc.govt.nz (external link) .
The biggest change is the need to spend more on the proposal to seal the Catlins road. The project was approved in the 10 Year Plan but the project has increased in cost, and now the road to Waipapa Point will be sealed at the same time.
The plan also highlights key changes to smaller projects in our communities, which we know are important to you.
The public were able to make submissions, with 263 received. A submissions hearing was held on April 7 and, following consideration of submissions, the Annual Plan was finalised by Council on June 29.
