Home to around 550 people, the community of Wyndham is located at the junction of the Mimihau Stream and Mataura River, 6km east of Edendale.
The town was named for General Sir Charles Ash Windham who fought in the Crimean War. The streets are in turn named for events, places, battles and personalities from that war. It was gazetted a town district in 1882.
